Today, Mckenzie did some tummy time, while grandma was babysitting and mommy was doing homework! We have found that he really likes to be on his tummy. He was on his back for awhile and would keep kicking his foot at one of the toys and it would rattle, it was just so cute. He also likes that little mirror on the activity mat. During the day we have really been struggling on getting him to nap peacefully on his own without being held, sadly the only way he will do this is on his tummy. We lay him in the front room on the floor and let him do this since we are watching him. I can honestly say...this is how I slept as a baby and I think all my kinds did also, but that was way before they drilled it into everyone that back is best!! Now, they say side to sleep! I wish the experts would make up their minds! I know that I never felt comfortable with the back idea only because of the risk of spitting up. Here is our tummy time photo!!

Grandma is #1
Okay, like any grandparents, they have to make sure that the little one has a shirt or two...okay, okay, this grandma buys everyone she sees!! I just feel that if he needs something to wear why not brag up his grandparents!! Lol This is just one of many and I had to make sure that I got plenty of pictures of him in it.

Priceless TImes
I love taking these pictures of Jessica and Mckenzie sleeping in the chair together. It's always hard on them when Grandma Romines has to work because I can't help with night feedings, so I often come home and find them snuggled up in the recliner together.

Happy 1 Month Birthday!!
Today, little Mckenzie is his 1 month Birthday!! So many things have changed in the last few weeks! I have gained some weight and I have gotten a little longer. My hair has gotten a little lighter and looks more like a dark brown then black. My Cephalohematoma has went down and now only feels like a small soft spot. I keep my eyes open a lot more and love to look around and on occasion I make little Cooing sounds to explore my voice. I continue to grow and change everyday as I grow into the individual that one day I will be!

Mommy and Me Snuggle
I can never pass up these pictures of Jessica and Mckenzie sleeping! It makes me proud how good of a mommy she has grown up to be. I'm sure that all mothers have some gratification when they see their kids taking care of their own family.

You Can Never Take To Many Pictures!!

I don't know what we as a society would do without all our null these days!! I think we are always snapping a picture daily with our phones or cameras! These are some pictures we snapped up while Grandma and Mckenzie played in the recliner while Jessica studied and caught up on her college homework!

Hello!
I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a good day! As you can hear, I have taken some time and added some of my favorite songs about children, being a parent and life in general. I hope that they are inspirational to you and may they add a smile to your face, a tear to your eye or just spark a fond memory! Music is just one of the amazing ways that we are able to express our feelings with one another, and for those who sing and write these beautiful songs they are sharing a story about their life with us. I would like the thanks each and everyone one of them for their dedication! It's more then just sitting down and writing these songs and singing them, it's about them dedicating their life to missing time with their families to entertain us. Without them, life would be a little boring!!

I'm Getting So Big!
As I Develop
I hope that you are all not finding this blog to boring. If you would like to suggest ways to improve it feel free to comment on any of the posts. I thought that maybe I would also add little interesting facts and things that I find in articles that I find.
As many of you know Mckenzie will be a whopping 3 weeks old tomorrow. My how time flies!
At this age, it's important to continue offering tummy time for the babies. This time allows the baby a chance to strengthen his/her neck muscles. It is suggested that the best way to encourage this is to lay the baby on your stomach and encourage them to look up at you. This will be very important down the road when the child learns to roll over, sit and crawl. By the end of the 3 week, they may be able to hold their head up briefly enough to turn their heads from side to side. This strengthening of the muscles and maturing of the nervous system will help make the newborns jerky movements more fluid.
Another characteristic if newborns at this age are their need for self soothing. It is recommend not to discourage. In a article that I read on www.babycenter.com, it states that the Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a pacifier should be given during nap time and bedtime, based on evidence that pacifier may reduced the risk of SIDS(sudden infant death syndrome).
I really found the information interesting about the pacifier. My children never would take a pacifier. They just didn't seem to like it. I was always a little glad. I don't know how many times that I have went shopping and was in public and saw little kids around 3-5 yrs old sucking on a pacifier. I just felt that their are other things parents can try to offer to help sooth them. I guess it was just one of the little things that I never agreed with.
Little Mckenzie seems to like sucking on his fingers and hand so much, that we thought that it was best to try one. We felt that down that road it would be much easier to get rid of a pacifier then having to stop him from sucking his thumb! It used to be that the hospital always would offer a pacifier but our local hospital has changed their look on it especially with the new little ones that are trying to get started on breastfeeding. It is felt that they would rather them try nursing then getting distracted with a pacifier.
I guess in the end it always comes down to us as parents and what we prefer and believe. Nobody ever said raising a child was easy!! There is just no booklet that spells everything out for us. We can only apply what we learn and go from there, in the end we learn by trial and error. Not every child learns the same and that's what makes us each individuals. I can say that after having my six children and watching them grow and develop into the young people they have become, it's what makes being a parent so rewarding. Rebecca

My First Walk
Today was super warm outside for a change and we decided that we would take advantage of the nice weather and get out for a walk. Little Mckenzie seemed to enjoy the walk and especially liked the bumpy brick roads. He got a little fussy when we stopped to see Great Grandpa Romines and our friend Gordon, but soon fell back to sleep again after we got to walking. I can't wait for the weather to be nice more often so that we can do this more often!! Jessica is already talking of running and I told her that little Mckenzie and I would take the walking path and she could run until her little heart is content!! Lol I can only imagine what kind of shape I would be in if I ran, I would probably need to share the stroller with Mckenzie! :{
Fun Times
On Monday, we took a trip over to Wal-Mart to take a friend of Jessica's there. We help him every payday by giving him a ride since he isn't able to drive. He sends money to his family in Mexico and we always go out for lunch. He is super grateful! Today he have Jessica a baby shower gift of a couple of onesizes and a can of supplementation formula along with some cash to get little Mckenzie what he needs. In return, we started helping him speak some English by teaching him phrases that would help him talk to us so that we can understand him, as he pretty much only speaks and understands Spanish. It was beautiful day and we had lots of laughs.

Great Grandpa Comes to Visit
On Sunday, Great Grandpa Romines came over for supper and visited. He had been out that day for a motorcycle ride that day and Jessica invited him back for supper. He really enjoys stopping by to see little Mckenzie. He says is just gives him something to do!! I'm sure that he is really ready for the weather to warm up so that he can go golfing!

Road Trip to Wichita!
Well, we got a call from Jordan on Friday afternoon asking about his birth certificate. He just got accepted to do a internship in South Africa this summer and was trying to get things together for his passport. So, on Saturday, we loaded up and made a road trip to see Jordan! He was happy to hear this, as he really wanted to see Mckenzie. As with most babies, Mckenzie usually falls asleep for the ride and this time was no different. We had to stop once on the way and make a bottle on the turnpike around Emporia, but he fell back asleep and slept until we arrive a Jordan's friends house. Uncle Jordan was super excited to get him out of the car and show him off to his friend. He even helped to feed him a bottle and in return little Mckenzie gave him a surprise!! Uncle Jordan was surprised at how much he has changed and grown and how squirmy he was! Lol We then went out to eat at Denny's and had a nice visit. It was after we ate that Mckenzie decided that he had enough!! He was very fussy until we got back to the friend's house and got another bottle prepared. We got him in a dry diaper and said our goodbye's! I am truly blessed to have such a good bunch of kids! They never ceased to amaze me how much they have matured and grown. Can't wait to see you again Uncle Jordan!!
